AD France Photos
by Jason Schmidt

When Architectural Digest France came to photograph the Montauk residence and guest house we had no reason to expect images as extraordinary as the ones Jason Schmidt took. But the photographs are so luscious, so perfectly composed and such a new vision of the project that we were breathless.

As Julius Shulman once said, he was sorry Philip Johnson was not alive when he photographed the Glass House so that he "could show his house to him". Photography is how we know architecture; we visit in person a fraction of the architecture we visit in images. Those images define our understanding of architecture and it is equally true of these photographs.

Thank you, Jason Schmidt, for showing us our house!
